✦ CHAPTER 5: STREAMING & DISCOVERABILITY ON TWITCH ✦

📺 “Discoverability is math, not magic.”

If you want to grow on Twitch, you have to understand how Twitch works.

This chapter covers how Twitch discoverability actually functions, how to optimize your streams for growth, and how to avoid the traps that new VTubers fall into.

✦ PART 1: Where You Can Be Discovered (as a Non-Partner)

Twitch has very limited discoverability compared to YouTube or TikTok.

Unless you’re a Twitch Partner (or you get manually featured), there are only a few places where your channel will be recommended:

1. “Recommended Channels” Sidebar

📍 Location: Bottom of the left-hand sidebar on Twitch

This is Twitch’s basic recommendation engine. It’s based on:

It’s very limited. You don’t have much control over this — except by training the algorithm through consistency (more on that later).

2. Discovery “Docs” on the Front Page

📍 Location: Twitch front page (web and app)

These are horizontal carousels showing themed streams like:

There are two types of discovery docs:

➤ Twitch Curated Docs (e.g., “Drops Enabled” or “Popular Now”)

➤ Personalized Docs (e.g., “VTubers You May Like”)

If your viewers also watch other VTubers who are getting good metrics, you’re more likely to show up too.

3. Search Bar

📍 Location: Top of Twitch

Search is one of the few tools you have control over.

Twitch search is based on:

We’re going to talk about optimizing all three in the next section.

✦ PART 2: How to Optimize Your Stream for Discoverability

Here’s how to make Twitch’s algorithm actually work for you.

📝 Your Stream Title = SEO Gold

Your stream title needs to work on two levels:

✦ My personal title formula:

‧ ₊˚ ┊ A Little Heresy, as a Treat... ┊ Warhammer Space Marines 2 ┊ ♡ ‧₊˚ ꒰ Vtuber ꒱✧ !gsupps 💫 !discord 🌸!vcharm ✧ @eggieweggievt

Breakdown:

  1. Visual pizzazz / emoji / decoration – Helps you stand out in the list
  2. Clickbait hook – Ex: “A Little Heresy, as a Treat...” = curiosity bait
  3. Game title – Twitch scans this to sort you
  4. Tags / info – “VTuber” helps you reach specific audiences
  5. Commands – Helps with functionality
  6. Your name – Surprisingly helps with SEO if people search for you

📌 Important:

Only the first sentence is visible in the Twitch category browser.

That’s the clickbait section — make it funny, weird, or intriguing.

The rest of the title? That’s for the algorithm.

Use it to stuff in the SEO and technical info. Don’t waste the space.

✦ PART 3: Tags on Twitch

Twitch lets you set five tags per stream.

These work like keywords and help users find you via:
