✦ CHAPTER 1: BRANDING & DESIGN ✦

🧸 “Everything is your brand — not just what your model looks like.”

💡 What is branding?

Let’s start here: your brand is everything you do online.

Not just your character design. Not just your overlay.

Branding is:

Literally everything you do — if it’s tied to your persona — becomes a part of your brand.

Branding is about consistency and clarity. It’s what people remember you for.

It’s the energy you give off online. It’s what makes someone say:

“Oh yeah, you’re the one who does those gremlin Souls clips!”

or

“Aren’t you the sleepy pastel VTuber who posts reminders to take your meds?”

Your model is part of that — but it’s not the whole thing.

✦ PART 1: VTuber Design — What Actually Matters

Design is super subjective. What looks cool to one person may not land with another.

And that’s okay! Your design should make you feel good.

But there are a few fundamentals you might want to keep in mind:

🧠 1. Busy designs are harder to draw

If you care about getting fan art — keep this in mind:

This doesn’t mean you have to be “basic.” But if your design includes 37 tiny accessories, 5 clashing patterns, and full plate armor — a lot of fan artists might pass you over.

Fan art is easier and more fun when the design is clean, readable, and memorable.

🧠 2. Busy designs can turn off model artists and riggers

Not every Live2D artist wants to work on a design with 60 layers of patterns.

If your design is hard to replicate, it may take more time to get rigged or cost more money in the long run.

🧠 3. Simple doesn’t mean boring

Iconic designs are usually very recognizable and have a strong silhouette.

You want someone to be able to remember you — even from a doodle.

That doesn’t mean you can’t be detailed! It just means details should serve the overall vibe.

🧠 4. A pretty model isn’t enough

You can’t rely on your model alone to carry your brand.

If your content, delivery, or energy doesn’t back it up, the prettiest model in the world won’t keep people coming back.

✨ A gorgeous model + a strong personality = amazing.

💀 A gorgeous model + no vibe = forgettable.

As I like to say:

“You can’t put a bow on a turd and expect it to shine.”

✦ PART 2: Cohesiveness & Gapmoe

Now let’s talk about cohesiveness — the idea that all parts of your brand feel like they go together.

When someone visits your channel or sees your posts, everything should feel like it’s part of the same universe.

You want it to feel intentional.

🧠 What is cohesiveness?

It means:

It’s like putting a neat little bow on a gift. Everything is tied up nicely.

This helps viewers:

🧠 But what about Gapmoe?

Gapmoe is a concept from anime/pop culture where a character’s appearance and personality are total opposites — and it’s charming because of that contrast.

✨ Example:

If this is intentional, it can be incredibly memorable.

But if it’s accidental, it can cause brand confusion — and hurt discoverability.

If your vibe doesn't match your look and you’re not doing it on purpose, it might be time to reassess.

🧠 Real-life example (mine):

I used to do ASMR with a dommy mommy persona. It worked okay, but the truth is — I didn’t enjoy it anymore.
